Mr. Robot is returning to SXSW in a big way.
The USA Network hacker drama, which won the episodic audience award at the festival last year, will feature a 100-foot Ferris wheel and a retro arcade, among other features, it was announced Wednesday.
In a nod to the show's famed Coney Island backdrop, the fsociety arcade experience also will include a photo booth, a t-shirt giveaway, a graffiti art installation featuring sketches and art inspired by the show and a hacker lounge that will play the pilot episode daily. (See the rendering of the Ferris wheel and full activation below.)
The activation will be set up in downtown Austin, Texas, at the Congress Avenue parking lot and run March 11-14 from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Additionally, Mr. Robot stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater will join creator Sam Esmail for a Q&A on Sunday, March 13, at 12:20 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center to discuss authenticity on TV, and particularly the show's depiction of tech culture.
Since first screening at SXSW last March, Mr. Robot has gone on to win two Golden Globe awards, three Critics' Choice honors and the WGA Award for best new series. The drama is one of several TV shows heading to SXSW this year, including HBO's new comedy Vice Principals and Cinemax's forthcoming Robert Kirkman drama Outcast.
Mr. Robot returns this summer for season two on USA.
The 23rd annual SXSW Festival is set to run March 11-19. You can see the full lineup of panels, screenings and events here.
